Wulfenite (rough and cut set)
Ahumada Mine, Los Lamentos, Chihuahua, Mexico
Miniature, 4.3 x 3.2 x 2.7 cm (Crystal), 1.32 ct (Gem)
SOLD
4.3 x 3.2 x 2.7 cm (Specimen); 1.32 carats; 7.33 mm x 3.73 mm (Gem) - Wulfenite is not easy to put into rough and cut sets, especially when both the stone and the specimen are from the same locality. This set is rare only from the standpoint of the gemstone itself. Specimens of Wulfenite from Los Lamentos are not rare, though they are among some of the finest specimens of the species in the world. Cut stones from this locality are few and far between, and the gem in this set is one of only a few I've seen. The stone has a "Modified Octagonal" cut gem with a lively orange color and only very very slight inclusions. The specimen hosts crystals with the typical butterscotch hue which measure up to 1.6 cm.
