Fluorite
Minerva Mine #1, Cave-in-Rock Dist., Illinois, USA
Large Cabinet, 16.8 x 9.7 x 6.4 cm
SOLD

This is a dramatic and very fine multicolored fluorite with the rare yellow cores for this district, highlighted by purple edges and overtones. The combination is very stunning and beautiful, and I think is unique to Illinois. Rare in this size, this is a fine and complete specimen that displays both vertical and horizontally, and has no damage to the display face at all - despite the large size. Totally covering its limestone matrix is a large cluster of lustrous and translucent, intergrown, fluorite crystals that reach 3.7 cm across. The crystals are colored a deep amber color at their cores along with lavender color zoning at or near the terminations.
