This is a very rare old classic, with incredible GEMMY crystals of the rare phosphate, strengite. Nestled in a vug are rosettes of lustrous and translucent, bright pink strengite crystals, to 7 mm in length. This is a very rich specimen, with unusually lustrous and glassy crystals! Strengite is an uncommon, hydrated iron phosphate, closely related to variscite. Ex. Irene du Pont collection at the University of Delaware. The minerals exhibited there are from the collection of Irene du Pont, Sr. (1876 - 1963), whose collection was gifted to the University of Delaware in 1964. Du Pont purchased much of his collection from George Kunz, Vice-President of Tiffany & Co., in 1919. This specimen came out in a cull of non-display pieces from the collection, some years ago.
