Captivating and quite showy, this pseuomorph of Baryte after calcite is aesthetically perched on purple and blue fluorite. The largest Baryte pseudo is 2.8 cm across and somewhat equant, composed of a sparkling snow-white mineralization that has a silky shine to it in person. It is mesmerizing in its subtle details and mostly hollow. Mined November 1987 by one of the drillmen, this is from a unique pocket, of which few specimens ever made it out. We regard it as one of the most beautiful and unusual pieces in the collection, aside from its significance as an Illinois specimen and its worthiness in sheer quality as a competitive-level miniature.
