Tourmaline Var. Vanadian Uvite
Mogok, Burma
Thumbnail, 1.9 x 1.8 x 1.3 cm
Ex. Jim White
SOLD
A very RARE example of the strange uvites found around 1997, from one pocket, which were shown to have green color induced by vanadium instead of by more common coloring chromophores in tourmalines. This is a complete floater, complete all around and fully terminated. I remember this well because I skipped a lab meeting in grad school to go see them when they came in. This is a rather large example, as I recall (and I saw most of them at the time through the importer, Pala Intl/Bill Larson). This piece was one I sold to Jim White at the time from that lot, which has now made its way back to me.
