Smithsonite Var. Cobaltian
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4.3 x 4.0 x 3.9 cm
SOLD
This style of smithsonite crystal is one of the absolute rarest, seldom seen. It features severely elongated transparent crystals that come to sharp and pointed terminations. The color is a pleasing, pastel pink in person, due to small traces of cobalt in the crystals. This style is distinctive for Tsumeb, but was only found a few times in the history of the mine. This piece is a display quality miniature with a 360-degree, radiating cluster of slender, glassy and gemmy, prismatic crystals to 2 cm in length. They are perched on a matrix of massive ore. The crystals are in good shape with only the peripheral crystals being contacted. This is a fine old specimen, probably from the late 1970s or early 1980s era here. BETTER In PERSON.
