Mimetite (Gem Pocket 1971)
Gem Pocket, Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
Thumbnail, 2.1 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm
SOLD
This is an attractive group of sharp, lustrous, translucent-to-gemmy, yellow prismatic Mimetite crystals. The luster is excellent, as is the golden-yellow color. The main 1.9 cm crystal is mostly translucent with a sharp, gemmy termination. The crystals are partially contacted/included by what might be Beaverite, a rare sulfate. This enhances the yellow saturation. From the famous 1971 Gem Pocket. An aesthetic thumbnail compared to the usually jumbled messes we more often see, and from THE SINGLE MOST FAMOUS FIND FOR THE SPECIES! I so rarely see one for sale. And, this is a competition level thumbnail.
