Millerite in Calcite Geode
Estabrook Park, Racine Co., Wisconsin, USA
Miniature, 5.6 x 4.0 x 3.6 cm
Ex. Robert Trimingham
SOLD

A rarity from the USA! Nestled aesthetically in the calcite-lined geode is a divergent, acicular spray of millerite crystals, to 2 cm in length. The lustrous, golden crystals of millerite are associated with lustrous and translucent, colorless calcite crystals, to 1.4 cm in length. This is a classic association, and very rarely seen in such aesthetic quality! The collecting site is now in a park, and collecting is forbidden, so all specimens are antiques. Bob Trimingham Collection. On his label, he notes how similar this piece is to a famous example noted in the Barlow Collection book. Barlow lived in Wisconsin and had the best suite of such things. That piece later sold for thousands of dollars. This is a true rarity.
