Pyrrhotite
Blue Bell Mine, Riondel, Slocan Mining Division, British Columbia, Canada
Miniature, 4.1 x 2.2 x 1.7 cm
SOLD
The Blue Bell Mine of British Columbia was a major lead-zinc producer in the province until its closing in 1971. We have seen some pyromorphite from here but this is the first pyrrhotite I have personally seen from the locality. This rare and very fine specimen features two intergrown, stacked clusters of lustrous, bronzy-brown, pseudo-hexagonal plates of pyrrhotite. There is an excellent article on this noted locale in the January-February, 1977 issue of the Mineralogical Record. "The specimen quality rivals other well-known localities such as Santa Eulalia, Mexico and Trepca, Yugoslavia." This choice piece probably dates to the late 1950s to early 1960s. Ex. Dennis Mullane Collection.
