from the MARTIN LEWADNY COLLECTION
ex. Martin Lewadny
Very nice cluster of botryoidal Mimetite from Mina Congresso in San Pedro Correlitos (1968 find). The balls of Mimetite are an attractive yellow, and the silky luster gives the Mimetite a lovely visual richness. The largest of the spheres is a 8 mm across. A quality, attractive Mimetite.

A gemmy, very sharp, equant, highly lustrous, 1.4 cm Zircon crystal, well-exposed on biotite schist. This is a classic old locality for the species, and you can see why it is such a classic! The luster, form, and beautiful deep-red color create a gorgeous aesthetic. Specimens of this size, well-exposed and on matrix, are hard to obtain today and I have seen only a few in the last decade or so turn up, from old collections. A fine thumbnail example, here!

Outstanding, complete heart-shaped pinwheel of beautiful yellow Adamite from the famous Ojuela mine in Mexico, sitting perfectly on matrix. The gemmy crystals in this radial growth have excellent luster and color, and the pinwheel itself is an incredible 2.7 cm across. Excellent bright yellow fluorescence. Very aesthetic.

This thing is STUNNING, in both lustre and habit - and will put many people off to guessing , i think, before they judge it a hematite. It is a first-class thumbnail! The form is a rare pseudo-scalenohedral crystal habit. These come out but rarely in such quality and Marty picked one from a collection I got in the mid-90s, and has held it all this time. We think its an older piece, yet. The luster is mirror-likeand you can shave in the reflections; and the 2.5 cm length of the crystal is impressive as well - making it major as well as aesthetic. I have rarely seen a hematite thumbnail I loved, as much as this one, for its imposing form and size. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON, i assure you.

A representative, classic Wulfenite/Mimetite combination composed of transparent, lustrous orange-yellow windowpane Wulfenite and beautiful orange Mimetite balls from one of the world's best localities for the species. These are from classic late 1970s finds. San Francisco Mine Wulfies are known for their gemminess, beveled edges, and association with Mimetite.

A classic Wulfenite/Mimetite combination composed of transparent, lustrous orange-yellow windowpane Wulfenite and beautiful orange Mimetite balls from one of the world's best localities for the species. These are from classic late 1970s finds. San Francisco Mine Wulfies are known for their gemminess, beveled edges, and association with Mimetite. Aesthetic, and quite classic. The large crystal here is 2.9 cm tall, of good size! It is nearly pristine, with just a few minor bits of edge ding. The termination is complete, and shows both a rounded termination and a sharp squared edge, joined together atop. Admittedly, it could be photographed better...and it IS better in person...

A VERY rich specimen of the rare mineral Millerite, with the display face covered with dense, velvety acicular balls of a deep, brassy green. The largest of these is 1.2 cm across. You can see the golden sheen of the crystals along the tips of these radial clusters. A very fine specimen for the locality and the find, as Marty had much of this find when it came out and kept this, the best thumbnail he acquired, for himself (this wsa in the mid to late 1990s)

Exceptional, choice cluster of sharp crystals of Hyalophane, a rare variety of Feldspar. This specimen is dominated by a twinned, GEMMY, 2 cm crystal with superb luster and complex habit. It's light straw-yellow color is accented by the gemminess. One of the best I have seen from this locality, and much better in person, as gemmy crystals can be very hard to photograph. This is an outstanding thumbnail example from a famous locale that exemplifies the best of the species

Beautiful cluster of intergrown tabular Wulfenites from the famous Los Lamentos locality. True to form, these Wulfies have the superb luster, great color, and classic "sandwich" habit we have come to expect from the best of Los Lamentos. The largest crystal is about 1 cm. These crystals are distributed nicely along the matrix, showing good balance and great aesthetics in 3-D.

A significant specimen of the rare silver mineral, Stephanite. This RAZOR SHARP cluster is composed of lustrous hexagonal crystals up to 1 cm in length. Such good crystallization and definition is uncommon, and these crystals are even slightly hoppered for added geometric complexity. An important and aesthetic thumbnail that is competition quality and would fit in any top collection. It is fullsized, 3-dimensional, and imposing visually in person. One of my favorites in the collection!

Terrific Azurites always come to mind when mentioning Tsumeb but this piece is shocking, ridiculous in color contrastr - it stands out from all other such azuyurite thumbers I have seen and is competition level, thus. These deep blue, sharp, rectangular prisms with classic lustrous, striated faces are set off beautifully against contrasting halloween-green Bayldonite (microcrystals). The Azurite crystals average 1-1.5 cm. This makes for a uniquely attractive toenail (large thumbnail or small miniature) specimen that is well-balanced, aesthetic, and very hard to come by. The association is rare. Ex. Sam Nasser collection.

Superb, arborescent growth of fine Dyscrasite crystals perched on milky-white Calcite. The branches have delicate, attractive form, and they spread beautifully across and above the Calcite so they complement each other in aesthetic fashion The cluster is floating on the preserved bit of matirx, terminated and complete all around! ex Bill Larson Collection , in exchange. It is a superb and rare example of this important silver species from one of the most important historic mining districts.

Very nice cluster of botryoidal Mimetite from Mina Congresso in San Pedro Correlitos (1968 find). The lemon-yellow color is unusually pure and intense, without the normal orange hues mixed in; and the silky luster gives the Mimetite a lovely visual richness. The largest of the spheres is a .6 cm across. A quality, attractive Mimetite.

"Striking" is the only way to describe this incredible Vanadanite which REALLY stands out from the crowd! The main crystal is 2.7 cm across, it has superb luster, and a beautiful deep orange-red color. The tabular portion is nearly .5 cm thick. However, that is just the beginning. In reality, portions of the Vanadanite grow to a thickness of 1.2 cm! Intergrown in the back, as well as on the main face, are numerous high quality Vanadinites. Some in the back themselves reach 1 cm across and .6 cm thick - on their own they would have made a great Vanadanite specimen. Overall, this is a fantastic specimen - aesthetic, unusual, and sharp as can be. It is a FULL and imposing thumbnail. ex Sam Nasser collection

Pyromorphites from Bad Ems are some of the most sought-after in the world, not only for their aesthetics but also the fact that virtually all the good ones were mined during the second half of the 1800's. This specimen tops most with its rich color, SUPERB 'wet-look' lustre, translucence, and fine hexagonal barrel form. The upper crystal is almost one full cm, and the lower crystals reach up to 1.6 cm. The floral form of the gently-hoppered barrels is a habit rarely seen, no matter what the locality. Very aesthetic - a great toenail sized specimen (either a large thumbnail or a small miniature depending on how you angle it for display) ex Sam Nasser collection
