You do not normally think of prehnite in and of itself as a top class mineral specimen, because the crystals don't usually get big and isolated. Well, they do from here! This translucent, pear-green doublet on matrix just glows! It has to be one of the most aesthetic prehnites I have seen, in this size!

Here was another surprise, GOOD actinolite crystals! You almost never see this specimens in specimen-worthy crystals for the collector of good crystals, and here we even have them on matrix! Charlie valued these highly, because of their notability for the species and also for Namibia. The most aesthetic of the three...

Scheelite from Gamsberg Region, Namibia [db_pics/pics/k-195b.jpg]

A MAJOR scheelite for the locality, with unusually good lustre and faces ...but also a rich peach-orange color that is much prettier than the normal brownish hue you see in smaller examples from here. These are quite rare. I have handled only a handful in 20 years. This is by far the best in terms of aesthetics I have seen, although I once had a slightly larger , if cruder, specimen. Charlie considered this to be a very important speicmen in his Namibian suite, as do I.

K-155 - Topaz - SOLD

A weird, teardrop shaped topaz that looks more like a sugary candy than a crystallized mineral...this specimen formed by some bizarre resorption effect, perhaps. it is strikingly 3-dimensional, quite gemmy in person, and just plain odd (in a good way!).

Charlie valued these highly, because of their notability for the species and also for Namibia. A very elegant specimen and probably the best of the three pieces

Sphene (twinned) from Gamsberg, Namibia [db_pics/pics/k-159b.jpg]

This is a superb, twinned, lustrous, and somewhat gemmy sphene from the Gamsberg mines known more for rutile than anything gemmy. It is very 3-dimensional and complete all around, and would be good even by Brazilian standards! But for Namibia, its even more a killer - and sitll competes even by worldwide standards! This twin exhibits unusual symmetry, and in this regard is a bit different in aspect from the more "winged"-looking twins characteristic of Pakistan and Brazil. It has a few small bits of edge wear, but is really overall in fine shape.

This twin is of a style more robust and thick, than the following piece....they really complement nicely an dI could discount 10% for the pair of them to keep them together.

A very rich, rare specimen of microcrystallized papagoite! Charlie stated, and I agree based on what I have seen, that this small mine might be yielding the finest actual crystals of this species, which is usually seen as mere adjoined microcrystalline crusts from Arizona or as inclusions with in quartz from the Transvaal area. He thought very highly of this specimen, as do I. It can and should probably be broken into two specimens of equal value as a rarity.

An apple-green ball of prehnite perched on a natrual pedestal. GLOWS with juicy color in person!!! This is a KILLER prehnite thumbnail...and a great thumbnail period, for that matter.

Another surprise in the collection, that I had never heard of before from the region. Charlie got this one-off some 15 years ago. Note the size and quality of these crystals rivals anything from India, even!
