the Richard Hauck Collection

Interesting, near-floater crystal of pyrite from the classic old location of Rio Marina on the Island of Elba. These mines have been producing pyrite for hundreds of years and this is certainly a well-formed one of classic style! The top half of the crystal is a large-faced pyritohedron, nicely formed with bright luster and sharp edges. The bottom half of the crystal is complexly terminated, still with bright luster but almost flat, with many stepped crystal faces. A very nice pyrite from this great Italian location. Old Ward’s, Scott Williams Minerals Co., and Hauck collection labels accompany the piece.

From the ancient slags of Laurion (or Lavrion), is this specimen of cuproadamite: in lustrous, translucent, green, botryoids in a limonite matrix. The spheres average .5 cm across. Salt water attacking the ancient slags has helped create a series of wonderful secondary mineral species on top of the old mining piles and this is probably such a specimen.

Beautiful gemmy blue crystals of lazulite to 1.2 cm on a quartz matrix. These crystals represent some of the most gemmy lazulite that we have seen outside of the Yukon. These lazulites are very historic, having been collected many years ago. Many of the crystals are terminated and have rich gem areas with a color blue not routinely seen in the mineral world. Some damage present on the piece. Former collection (?) label comes with piece.

Incredible, competition-quality specimen of cassiterite from the old mines of Araca, Bolivia. These were found in the 1930s to 1950s, in this quality. The crystals on this piece are beautifully formed, with outstanding luster, and some are even translucent and GEMMY !! The crystals are fairly uniform in size (up to 3.5 cm across) , 3-dimensional, lustrous as heck, and appear to be sitting on massive cassiterite. Minor abrasions can be observed on some of the crystal edges but nothing truly bothersome that detracts. Somebody's competition case label and Hauck collection label included with piece.

Sharp single crystal of pyrite on steatite (talc) from one of the classic Vermont pyrite locations of Perkinsville. This slightly modified cube is beautifully formed and has a interesting patina on the crystal faces. The crystal is rectangular in form, with sides up to 2.3 cm. Outstanding specimen for the pyrite or US collector and so rar ein this quality! Hugh Ford, Edna Doughty collection, and Hauck collection labels are included with piece.

Bright shiny group of pyrite crystals from the classic Colorado pyrite location. These main crystal in the group is up to 4.2 cm on edge. All of the crystals have highly reflective faces with striations, typical for the location, along with nice sharp edges. Minor edge wear present on some of the edges. With the mines closed, these pyrites have become highly desired and really good ones are more and more difficult to obtain. This is of incredible quality for the locality!

Another truly classic mineral specimen from the old-world location of the Isle of Seiphos, Greece. This single ilvaite crystal is a well formed twin crystal with a nice termination and a rich black color - remarkable for size and perfection! Contacted only on the bottom and lower back of the crystal, the rest of the crystal is completely clean and damage-free. Hard to find specimens of this quality and from this historic location on the market today. Early 1900's Hugh Ford label included with piece.

Wulfenite specimens from this area are rarely seen in dealers stocks. Specimens of this quality are rarer still. Butterscotch, lustrous, tabular, crystals of wulfenite, to .75 cm across, abound on a hollow crust. Usually these ar ejumbled plates with little definition, but the crystals on this aesthetic specimen stick up a bit more than usual

Deep, neon blue, lustrous, crystals of azurite have formed two intergrown, rosettes, to 5.0 cm across. This oldtime specimen is also a complete floater, with no visible point of attachment. Very nice! This specimen is also a complete floater, with no obvious points of attachment. "Chessylite" in this size and quality is hard to come by today and most is 100 years old or more!

If the name of this species is unfamiliar to you, it is a rare member of the vesuvianite family of minerals. This matrix specimen displays a clearly tetragonal habit. It is a doubly terminated, lustrous, black, wiluite crystal, measuring 2.5 cm in length. Sharp!

This oddity clearly demonstrates the original, twinned, orthoclase crystals which have been totally replaced by dark gray, cassiterite, the primary ore of tin. Very rare and unusual 1800's classic !

This is a cluster of two twinned, highly lustrous to splendent, black, cassiterite crystals, each measuring about 3.0 cm in length. It also appears to be a near floater. There are a couple of wilbers which do not diminish the quality of the specimen. Very old classic, out of the collection of noted Colorado collector EM Gunnell.

unusual size - big twin, partial crystal, cool old labels.

sharp lustrous xls of the rare habit from here
ex. Richard Hauck
not twinned, i think - most unusual! extremely significant for size and locality ...and impressive in person! good old label...
