New Find: World-class Augelites from Peru
These remarkable new augelite specimens were found prior to the St
Marie show, early in the year. For the crystal habit, color, and
gemminess, these augelites rival any phosphate as a world class find,
and surpass most specimens previously known for the species. After
analysis to figure out what the heck they were, as anything like this
has not yet been seen in Peru to date, it was concluded that they
were, in fact, augelites - the world's best augelites as far as most
people are concerned. I certainly did a doubletake on viewing them! I
was lucky enough to be apprised of this find from the research stage
and had reserved even before the show all the good specimens I could
get, which were delivered to me recently. It is amazing to me that
such a fantastic phosphate deposit can remain undiscovered so long in
such an active place, with miners and prospectors traipsing all over
this area for ore deposits. I am told that the deposit itself is
rather small, and what you see here represents the very core of the
lot, most of the best of approximately 100 specimens recovered (the
majority are thumbnails, and thislot includes most larger specimens
available). No more have been found since, to my
knowledge.

A large, doubly terminated crystal of augelite measures 1.75 cm across. As a compound crystal, that stack of two intergrown crystals is almost an inch!
This is a showy radiating quartz specimen with 2 beautiful, gemmy green Augelite crystals to 1.5 cm in length perched atop. This is one of the few specimens with associated anything, let alone quartz. It makes for a nice display, and the isolation of the crystals is uncommon here.
This cluster of augelite crystals, to 2.o cm in length, exhibits a very nice sculptural quality. The crystals are glassy and green.
Quartz crystals, to 2.5 cm in length surround green crystals of augelite, to 1.5 cm. This is one of the few specimens with associated anything, let alone quartz.Large and impressive overall, it provides a fine display for a half dozen good augelite crystals
This was considered to be, by my friend who selected the specimens for me in Europe, the finest thumbnail of the lot for size, color, aesthetics, and overall pizzazz. I do believe him, and you can see pretty clearly its an impressive thumbnail specimen by any previous standard, plus has large crystals for this find as well as being a matrix piece. Two glassy green, doubly terminated crystals, to 2 cm across, are perched on this cluster.
Matrix specimen with largest augelite crystal measuring .7 cm across. This is one of the largest pieces recovered, and is very rich with crystals running up as a rim along the edge!
The largest augelite crystal is doubly terminated and measures 1.0 cm across. This is one of the largest pieces recovered, and is very rich with crystals!
Largest crystal of augelite is 1.6 cm in length. Great cluster!
Largest augelite crystal measures 1.0 cm across. SUPERB, bright, colorful - one of the best clusters for visual appeal!
Cluster of glassy crystals of augelite with largest crystal measuring 2.1 cm in length. OUTSTANDING piece with deeper color than most others here. Some minor damage to secondary crystal, but the major one is pristine
With minor, gemmy quartz crystals to .5 cm in length. Largest augelite crystal is 1.5 cm across.
A large, 2.5 cm across, doubly terminated, lustrous and glassy crystal of augelite is aesthetically perched on matrix. ONE OF THE LARGEST CRYSTALS!
A cluster of translucent, glassy, augelite crystals, the largest of which is doubly terminated and measures 2.1 cm in length. Superb, showy, lustrous cluster with lots of reflective points. Only trivial small dings on a secondary crystal, the largest being pristine.
A 2.0 cm across, doubly terminated crystal of augelite is perched on the top of the specimen. Big crystal, sharp form, good matrix, just a bit pale compared to the others in color and so....cheap in comparison as well. a good deal for a representative piece here.
Glassy, green augelite crystals on this specimen reach 1.2 cm across. SUPERB QUALITY! this piece has great color and is complete all around.
