specializing in the Mineralogy of Pribram, Czech Republic
The JOSEF VAJDAK Radioactive Species Collection was built over some 60 years of study and collecting in Josef's two main areas of interest: his native Pribram locality, where he grew up; and radioactive minerals in general. He spent decades exploring the old Pribram and Jachymov mines, and even found a new species at Jachymov which was named after him (Vajdakite). For the past 30-40 years, Josef has also been a mineral dealer, accumulating his own colelction while specializing in European classics and rare species through his dealership, Pequa Rare Minerals. This particular subcollection of his lifelong collection consists of a mix of both display-quality and reference-quality systematic examples (validated in many cases at the University of Vienna or by Josef's friends in the Czech geological survey). Additionally, many pieces were recently studied here in the USA at the University of Notre Dame. It numbers just about 90 specimens, as shown on the scans of his labels, below. I should note about those labels two points: firstly, that the prices are dated, mostly from the 1980s when he last valued them for his accounting; and secondly, that the prices reflect the quality of the mineral within in most cases (higher price equating to a better specimen). Josef is over 80 now, and has finally let go of this collection with the hopes that it stays together and goes to a museum for research. I have agreed to offer it online, on his behalf. This collection represents THOUSANDS of hours of work and diligence. It is offered for the price of $7000 (click here to see his invoice to me, for this amount))
From Josef : I hope that you will do very well with these historical, extremely rare an irreplaceable minerals very well.
Should you find some uranium mineral collector who may want to purchase the entire collection I am willing to send you another very heavy package with all the information about the uranium minerals, color pictures of them, descriptions,
localities where they were found etc. - all in my private files which I assembled in some 40 years because uranium minerals and mineralogy was my specialty. I will let go this big and heavy box with documents to the buyer of the uranium collection for only additional $2,000.00. The information in the files is priceless.
