(numbered ERONGO09-301 to 340) selections from a new pocket discovered in August, 2009 of intense blue AQUAMARINE on SCHORL from the ERONGO MOUNTAINS, NAMIBIA
Just a few millimeters shorter than the previous aqua but otherwise its mirror image, this specimen is also doubly-terminated with glassy luster , and gemmy tips. And it has the same rich, blue color - they literally are almost twins. Around the center is a cluster of splendent, black schorl crystals to .4 cm across. This is a floater, complete all around, with no visible contact save a small dab of attached feldspar in the verymiddle on bottom of one face.
This is a superb doubly-terminated aqua with glassy luster and gemmy tips, along with a rich blue color. In the center of the aqua is a cluster of splendent, black schorl crystals, to a few mm in length.COMPLETE all around, perfect, except only a very small contact point mid-ships on the bottom.
Glassy luster, and exceedingly gemmy terminations make this cluster of rich blue aquas, to 3.7 cm in length, very aesthetic. In general the terminations are good and on the largest crystal there is an interesting negative impression where another crystal had contacted this one.
This is a short, stout, glassy and gemmy, rich blue aqua measuring 2.4 cm in length. Small, splendent, black schorl crystals to .5 cm are at the base of the aqua. Smaller aquas are also on the side of the main crystal; and one face has glassy and gemmy secondary, colorless beryls upon it. Very good termination. Very impressive visually, with just one (smallest) broken termination amidst the 3 intergrown crystals here.
A large aqua crystal sits on white, feldspar which also contacted the aqua at the termination. However, enough of the termination is clearly visible at the top to display well. The large aqua measures 4.5 cm in length. The aquas are glassy ,though opaque and so have rich blue color.
A 4.0 cm-long glassy and gemmy, rich blue aqua sits on a matrix of white feldspar along with crystals of splendent, black, schorl, to 0.75 cm across. The top half of the aqua is very gemmy and nearly pristine. An elegant miniature at a fair price
A single, glassy and gemmy, rich blue aqua is aesthetically perched on massive, white feldspar the aqua measures 3.0 cm in length and has a gemmy termination and is nearly pristine. Elegant!
Glassy and gemmy aqua crystals, to 3.5 cm in length, exhibit a rich blue color. White feldspar is also the host for splendent, black crystals of schorl to 1.25 cm in length. One fully terminated aqua crystal exhibiting unusual extended growth, is undamaged and yet it looks like a wedge shaped piece is missing. All the aquas have gemmy terminations and appear to be pristine. Fascinating!
This is a richly hued blue aqua with glassy luster and an extremely gemmy termination. The color is darker than most, here. The base of the crystal is a healed termination, thus making this crystal doubly-terminated. Dramatic, at a good price point!
This is a richly hued blue aqua with glassy luster and an extremely gemmy termination. The color is darker than most, here. The base of the crystal is a healed termination, thus making this crystal doubly-terminated. Typical minor chipping on the crystal edges of Erongo aquas has occurred but it does not materially affect the specimen. Small, splendent, black schorl crystals can be found at the base of the specimen. Dramatic, at a good price point!
On a sliver of white feldspar matrix, is perched a cluster of glassy and gemmy, rich blue aquas to 3.8 cm in length. The terminations are all extremely transparent and glassy. Overall, although small perhaps compared to other pieces and more expensive pieces here, this is one of my absolute favorites and is truly a little "jewel" of highest quality!
Growing on and around a cluster of splendent, black schorls to 1.8 cm across, are glassy and gemmy, rich blue aquas to 4.1 cm in length. The largest aqua is also doubly terminated. All the aqua terminations are transparent and although some have very minor chips on the terminal edges , you have to look really close to see them. Unusual in the dramatic combination, and the way the aquas shoot out from teh schorl matrix.
This single crystal of glassy and gemmy, rich blue, aqua has tiny, splendent, black schorl crystals at its base and on the termination. In addition, two prism faces show the interesting negative impression of another crystal at its base. Super textbook example of a good aqua, and priced far less fro mthis locality in such quality, than it would be from Pakistan or Brazil
A triangular-shaped cluster of glassy and gemmy aquas to 2.8 cm in length, perched on a matrix of white feldspar along with splendent, black crystals of schorl, to 1.5 cm across. The terminations of the aquas are transparent and nearly pristine.
This matrix specimen is exquisite because of its geometry: four essentially vertical , slender gem aquas are perched on a horizontal aqua crystal, measuring 3.5 cm across. The crystals are glassy and gemmy and exhibit a rich blue color. The aqua terminations are totally transparent and all are nearly pristine. Elegant and beautiful!
