featuring major 2011-2012 finds from Inner Mongolia
A sharp cluster of VERY gemmy pink fluorite, read-through transparency, from the new finds here. Few crystals above an inch or so have such clarity, and most are damaged. This piece displays well and , atlhough contacted in back, I scomplete on the front display faces. From finds in late 2011.
These are the most robust, large ilvaite crystals ever seen - even this piece is fatter and thicker than nearly all ilvaite from other localities I had seen before. It is particularly well-balanced for the size, with gorgeous, jet-black ilvaite with good luster. This is complete all around 360-degrees, and has the complex multiple-termination style that is the less common of several habits from this new find. This was found in the fall of 2011.
This combination specimen features a spray of lustrous, showy ilvaite leaping out from a nesting of green, hedenbergite-included quartz crystals. The ilvaite is complete all around, with jcrystals to 4 cm in height (though they go down a bit deeper into a pocket). The quartz provides a highly desirable (and rarely seen) color contrast, and have come to be considered the classic association for the best matrix ilvaite from this mine. This piece is very dramatic, in person, and is an excellent example for the new finds here
A dramatic fluorite specimen from an unusual locality for me, this piece has special aesthetics. The fluorites, teal blue and multicolored, are perched atop a nice quartz stalk. While flattish/rough in back, the fluorite is actually complete all around. A sparkly druse of microscopic little pyrite crystals adds a glitter effect to parts of the surface. Sharp geometry and color, combined with the quartz perch, really make this stand out. This was found in 2011.
This combination specimen features a showy ilvaite leaping out from a nesting of green, hedenbergite-included quartz crystals. The ilvaite is nearly complete all around, with just a few small contacts in the back. The ilvaite termination is sharp and tapering, also nearly complete (just a few contact spots in back side), and is nicely freestanding. Although some of the quartzes are broken, they provide a highly desirable (and rarely seen) color contrast, and have come to be considered the classic association for the best matrix ilvaite from this mine. This piece is very dramatic, in person, and is an excellent example for the new finds which, despite a few little bits of damage, really looks like it would be nearly priceless if from any previous ilvaite locale we have seen.

This aesthetic specimen features a cluster of arsenopyrite in dramatic, unusually sharply geometric crystals to 5 cm across. The arsenopyrites are perched on a forest of quartz crystals, making for extremely good display quality. The piece is complete all around. Collected some years ago, and long in the collection of a Chinese private collector of Jiangxi minerals (who had very good taste !) .
A beautiful "wheat sheave" cluster of elongated manganoan calcite crystals, with an intense pink coloration to them (stronger , richer pink color in fluorescent light as opposed to halogen light, under which these photos were shot). Complete all around, this is from a series of pockets which produced such pieces in mid-2011. Seems that since then, new pieces of this style are more uncommon. I believe these will be remembered as a contemporary classic, as well as for their beauty. The pink, manganoan-rich calcite is fluorescent orange-red under UV light.

For my taste, this cluster of three intergrown "wheatsheaves" is one of the few truly elegant of these intense pink calcites recovered in good condition, that we are aware of. Most were small, or big and damaged. Most of this style formed single clusters, or jumbly masses...but this piece has a pleasing radial arrangement that really impresses in person. It is also very 3-dimensional, complete, and pristine. This is so different from any other calcite style we have seen - an intense pink cluster composed of intergrown "wheat sheaves" of elongated manganoan calcite crystals, with an intense pink coloration to them (stronger , richer pink color in fluorescent light as opposed to halogen light, under which these photos were shot). This is from a series of pockets which produced such pieces in mid-2011. Seems that since then, new pieces of this style are more uncommon on the market and I have not been able to buy more. I believe these will be remembered as a contemporary classic, as well as for their beauty. The pink, manganoan-rich calcite is fluorescent orange-red under UV light. This specimen is complete all around. It displays dramatically on its custom lucite base. Note also that the pink color saturation seems to be volumetric - in other words, these bigger pieces are actually slightly more rich pink, in normal lighting.

This dramatic piece is from a special pocket found in early 2011, and to date not equaled from the mine. Many people are saying that these arsenopyrites, for luster and sharpness, rank among the world's best of species. In person, they have a pure silver color and a sparkle to them caused by minute surface detailing, like the skin of a lizard but much, much finer in scale. On this piece, the arsenopyrite is displayed dramatically upright, atop a natural pedestal of green hedenbergite and black ilvaite.
A large, fat, rich pink-maroon-colored fluorite crystal from early 2011 finds here. These crystals had potential to be world class, but unfortunately they just do not get glassy in large sizes. Nevertheless, a very interesting color, and a big pink fluorite compared to what is available from any previous localities for this color of fluorite. Few this size were recovered in good condition. This crystal is actually complete all around, except contact on one back face and the bottom.
